For as long as I can remember, the path from junior-level developer to senior and beyond has been fuzzy. There’s no map, no guidebook that tells you how to get from point A to point B in your career, or which paths may be available.
Here I will be your guide in leveling up your dev game. I intend to focus on tech skills, as well as essential skills like estimation, planning, scoping projects, defining specs, and all the other stuff that you would otherwise learn the hard way as you go.
If you know your code but don’t have industry experience, this guide will get you ready for the real world. And if you have some experience but want to take it a step further, I can help there too.
What I’m writing is the guide I wish I had when I was a junior software engineer. It’s the advice, guidance, and perspective I wish someone had given me when I was established enough to know what I was doing, when I had just enough knowledge to be dangerous, when I was ready to level up as a dev.
With the knowledge I impart here, you’ll know: which tools to use, when to use them, and how to do so with expertise. Moreover, you’ll know how to go beyond the tech to make excellent products for your users.
If anyone has suggestions on topics they would like to see covered, leave a note in the comments! I’m always happy to help.
With that, this is Austin Pocus, signing off for now. Stay tuned!
Nice intro! You've talked about mentoring developers for years. This is a great way to get started. I can't wait to see the first topic.
